Sea, river and lagoon. Lignano Sabbiadoro is an ideal destination to discover on two wheels. “Saddle up”, breathe in the clean, healthy air and explore Lignano and its surroundings by following the cycle routes we have laid out for you!

A flat territory to travel by bike with the minimum of effort, cycle paths and secondary roads with little traffic that guarantee a safe ride for the whole family and itineraries that enter the green of the pinewoods, alongside the sea and the lagoon.

These are just a few of the reasons that make Lignano Sabbiadoro simply perfect to explore on two wheels! Do you want to discover them all?

Cycling around Lignano Sabbiadoro

The peninsula of Lignano Sabbiadoro is bathed by the gentle waves of the Adriatic Sea, by the placid waters of the lagoon of Lignano and Marano as well as by the flow of the River Tagliamento, one of the rivers in Europe least modified by human activities. These waters provide many varied views, all of them breathtaking and there is no better way to discover them than slowly, on a bike.

Pedaling, you will realize that the long lagoon cycle path is ideal to cover at sunset time to admire the warm rays of the sun reflected on the water and the herons soaring in flight. In complete safety on the seafront cycle path you will observe the 8 km of Lignano beach from your bicycle while in the early morning you can participate in free excursions on the beach with fat-tyred sand bikes. And all this while staying within the confines of Lignano Sabbiadoro!

Discover the surroundings of Lignano Sabbiadoro by bike

We have prepared a map for you with our recommended cycling routes covering the hinterland of Lignano Sabbiadoro and with routes to follow on two wheels that will enable you to ride along the coast of the Upper Adriatic, arriving at Bibione and the Valle Vecchia nature reserve to the south, Latisana and countryside farms and wineries to the east and Marano Lagunare and Grado to the north.

The map doesn’t only cover bike paths, footpaths and secondary roads but included convenient boat connections that will quickly and effortlessly allow you to cross rivers and lagoons.

It’s worth remembering that many of these itineraries by bike can be traveled in company by participating in our free excursions that take place almost every day during the summer season. There is more information on the page dedicated to excursions.

Free bike tours

From June to September Lignano Sabbiadoro offers a rich program of bike tours: an opportunity to discover the beach resort and its surroundings.

Every day a different itinerary will give you the chance to cross rivers, countryside and lagoon, take part to food and wine tours and discover cities rich in history and culture: all this by bike! You will also travel by boat and this will let you discover the amazing river and lagoon natural environment typical of this area.

Maritime services

If you want to visit Bibione, Grado and Marano you can take the maritime connection services throughout the summer.

Take your bike and get on the X RIVER, the cycle/pedestrian ferry on the Tagliamento, that connects Lignano and Bibione allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river quickly and safely. If you’d like to continue from Bibione to Caorle, you can take advantage of the X Lagoon boat service, which also includes a possible stop at the Valle Vecchia visitor center.

If you're curious to explore the historic center of Marano Lagunare and its surroundings, you can use the maritime connection between Marano and Lignano. The Rosa dei Venti motorboat is equipped with a dedicated bike compartment, making it easy for cyclists (especially those coming from inland areas) to reach the coast. (Check the official website or ask the boat captain for bike availability on board.)

With the Lignano–Grado maritime service reinstated for summer 2025, the two seaside towns are now even closer: two daily departures from Lignano and two from Grado allow you to travel between these two popular Friuli Venezia Giulia destinations in a truly scenic way, across the sea and the lagoon. This service also includes the option to transport bicycles on board.

Finally, don’t miss the boat connection between Grado and Aquileia, which also allows bikes on board.
