Notti di Mezza Estate: How We Talk When We Talk About Love – The Language of Feeling

Midsummer Nights is a cultural series that blends words, music, and theatre under the stars, in two “stages of emotion and beauty”: the park of the Church of Santa Maria del Mare and the garden of the Church of San Zaccaria.

The fifth edition of the series, under the artistic direction of Mario Brandolin, follows an artistic journey devoted to the most universal feeling: love. From famous letters to literary tales, from theatrical recitals to concerts featuring tango, jazz and soundtracks, each event explores a different shade of love: passionate, ironic, romantic, disillusioned.

Alongside prominent actors, writers and artists, the Youth Orchestra Filarmonici Friulani takes center stage in the series, with musical readings and ensemble concerts.
Midsummer Nights is a project by the Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro and the Youth Orchestra Filarmonici Friulani.

On Monday, August 11 at 9:00 PM, at the Church of Santa Maria del Mare, don't miss the event “How We Talk When We Talk About Love – The Language of Feeling”, written and performed by Paolo Nori.

“The talk I’ll give in Lignano Sabbiadoro, I first gave a few years ago in San Giorgio di Piano, the hometown of Giulietta Masina, near Bologna. I arrived an hour early, did the sound check, it was an open-air event. Then someone I knew came from a nearby house — he was having dinner with friends and had heard my voice. He asked, ‘What are you doing here?’ I said, ‘I'm reading something.’ ‘What’s it about?’ ‘Love.’ ‘Love?’
There was a moment of embarrassment. As if it’s not normal to talk about love. And I was happy, because the talk was about that too: that in Italian, talking about love is not normal. Not at all.

The talk is titled How We Talk When We Talk About Love, with the subtitle The Language of Feeling. It was published as an appendix to the second edition of The Russians Are Crazy, a concise course in Russian literature published by Utet.

And basically, it’s me talking for an hour. No music, no debate.”

In case of rain, the event will be held at the Municipal Library.
