120 years of history of the baths of Lignano

It all began with a far-sighted excursion, when in the distant 1902 a boat left from Marano Lagunare and brought to Porto Lignano the founders of what the following year would be the first beach office in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

For those pioneers, that strip of sand dunes that extended from the lagoon to the mouth of the Tagliamento river showed all its potential. To seal that visit as the beginning of what proved to be a great undertaking, the ladies traveling on that boat planted juniper branches in the sand, exactly at the point where the first establishment "Bagni di Porto Lignano" would be built the following year. The facility was designed by the architect Giovanni Antonio Vendrasco, with a jetty extension towards the sea. And to reach the demand of the first tourists who arrived by boa, in 1905 it was built the first hotel, the Grand Hotel Lignano of the Marin-Piani lords.

The celebrations and events throughout the year

There are several events scheduled throughout the year to celebrate this anniversary, including celebratory moments, exhibitions and installations set up in the area and more.

The official start is scheduled for Sunday 7 May, with the opening ceremony of the tourist season and the presentation of the calendar of events designed for the anniversary, starting with the Hemingway award which this year will have a dedicated section.
