Cycling routes in Lignano amidst the sea, the river and the lagoon

Leave from Terrazza a Mare and take the Lungomare Trieste along Sabbiadoro beach, then continue along the cycle path through the pine forest at Villaggio Bella Italia until you get to Pineta. You can catch glimpses of the Adriatic Sea on your left, while the beach and the landscape varies slightly: the hotels and the tall apartment blocks of Sabbiadoro give way to low houses set in the greenery of Pineta, followed by the wild beach of Riviera.

When you get to the far end of Lignano, you will find yourself at the river Tagliamento which flows into the sea just a few metres ahead. If you fancy seeing the typical flora of the river mouth, you can stop at Camping Pino Mare or Ristorante al Cason (where you can admire spectacular sunsets).

You can take your dog to the mouth of the river Tagliamento next to La Vecchia Finanza restaurant, where there is a dog friendly beach nearby – Duke Beach.

Continue the Lignano bicycle route along the cycle path that starts at the end of Corso dei Continenti: you will go back up towards the moth of the river Tagliamento, and as you cycle you will see the pine forest on your right and the river on your left.

The cycle path then joins the large roundabout of Viale Tagliamento: just continue along the path towards Vie Case Bianche and into the Golf Club.

Keep cycling with care until you reach the junction with Via Lovato, where you should turn left before reaching the lagoon.



The raised cycle path will give you an exceptional view of the lagoon which stretches behind Lignano Sabbiadoro and is one of the area’s great treasures. You can explore it more closely by taking a boat trip on the lagoon.

Stop now and again to admire the water and the glints of the sun; there are lay-bys along the cycle path where you can rest and enjoy the view.

The cycle path ends and joins first Via Genziana followed by Viale dei Platani, onto Via Latisana and continuing along Via Carso, where you will see the sea ahead and one of Lignano’s most beautiful locations, Faro Rosso. Park your bike and take a stroll along the wooden boardwalk until you get to the renovated lighthouse, from where you can see the Conchiglie islands and, on clear days, Grado standing out against the horizon and the mountain peaks of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the distance.



On the saddle once again, take the cycle path along the seafront and back to Terrazza a Mare from which you left.
